How to care for your wooden cutting board
Here are a few steps to help keep your board in great condition. After each use, give your cutting board a wash.
Wash instructions:
- Wash your cutting board with warm water (soap is ok too)
- Rinse and let it dry thoroughly
- Air dry the board on its side so it can dry evenly and prevent warping
- Do not let board soak in water
- Never put it in the dish washer. You will want to condition your board every 1-2 months to keep it from drying, splitting or warping.
Oil instructions:
- Use your hands to apply a generous amount of mineral oil on to your board
- Apply oil on both sides and the edges
- Let the oil soak up for at least 3 hours
- Air dry the board on its side as per wash instruction
Bees wax:
- Once the oil has completely dried, spread wax over the entire board
- Let the board air dry on its side overnight
- This final step will create a barrier against moisture
Extra tips:
- To freshen up the smell of your board, rub half a lemon over the surface, let it sit for a minute, then wipe off.
- To remove stubborn stains, sprinkle baking soda over the board. Rub in the baking soda with a warm damp cloth, then rinse off.
