How to care for your wooden cutting board

Here are a few steps to help keep your board in great condition. After each use, give your cutting board a wash.

Wash instructions:

  • Wash your cutting board with warm water (soap is ok too)
  • Rinse and let it dry thoroughly
  • Air dry the board on its side so it can dry evenly and prevent warping
  • Do not let board soak in water
  • Never put it in the dish washer. You will want to condition your board every 1-2 months to keep it from drying, splitting or warping.

Oil instructions:

  • Use your hands to apply a generous amount of mineral oil on to your board
  • Apply oil on both sides and the edges
  • Let the oil soak up for at least 3 hours
  • Air dry the board on its side as per wash instruction

Bees wax:

  • Once the oil has completely dried, spread wax over the entire board
  • Let the board air dry on its side overnight
  • This final step will create a barrier against moisture

Extra tips:

  • To freshen up the smell of your board, rub half a lemon over the surface, let it sit for a minute, then wipe off.
  • To remove stubborn stains, sprinkle baking soda over the board. Rub in the baking soda with a warm damp cloth, then rinse off.
